What is it in life that you truly desire? What motivates you to get out of bed each morning? For David, the great king of Israel, it was a deep longing just to be near the presence of God. Though he had every earthly pleasure at his fingertips, David knew that nothing could compare to dwelling in the house of the Lord, gazing upon His beauty.
My friend, when we make seeking God our highest aim, a beautiful thing happens: He becomes our sole desire. The noise and hurry of life fades into the background. Like David, we find that only one thing is needed - to sit at the feet of Jesus.
Don't chase after gifts. Seek the Giver. Draw near to the Lord, and He will draw near to you. The greatest treasure is not getting what we want, but growing closer in friendship with Him. Let your heart become consumed with knowing Christ. Make seeking Him your number one priority. As you fast, may your hunger and thirst be for God alone.
Psalms 27:1-8 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock. And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord. Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud; be gracious to me and answer me! You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”
Psalms 86:11 Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.
Proverbs 23:26 My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.
